Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples

  • 250 grams all-purpose flour

  • 100 milliliters milk

  • 3 whole eggs

  • 250 grams sugar

  • 1 baking powder sachet

  • 5 milliliters vanilla essence

  • 100 milliliters sunflower oil

  • 100 grams unsalted butter

  • A pinch of baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Mix the eggs with 200 grams of sugar. Once most of the sugar is dissolved and the mixture has a creamy texture, add the milk, vanilla essence, sifted flour, baking powder, baking soda, and vegetable oil.
  • Clean, peel, and grate the apples. Mix the grated apple with the remaining sugar and cinnamon. Leave them aside for 10–15 minutes to eliminate the moisture. Drain the apples and place them in a tray with the butter over medium heat. Cook until most of the moisture has evaporated. Set aside once ready.
  • In a tray lined with parchment paper, pour half of the egg mixture and bake for 15 minutes at 180°C. Once ready, remove from the oven, spread the grated apples as evenly as possible on top of the cake layer, and top off with the remaining egg mixture.
  • Cook for an additional 20 minutes at 180 °C or until the top layer is crisp and a beautiful golden brown. Remember to make the toothpick test to ensure the dough is cooked all the way through. Take it out of the oven, leave it to cool, and sprinkle some icing sugar for decor.
