2023 in review with BitesOfAwe!
We did not post anything from the 18th of December, and maybe some of you may be wondering why. The reason is simple. We want family time to indeed be family time. So we didn’t take any pictures of food, didn’t post anything, and didn’t do anything for our blog until today. We deserve to disconnect and just not work for a while. To really *FEEL* the holidays. So let’s dive into our 2023 in review.

2023 was, I think, the best year for us so far. We started this blog in June, and later we slowly started to do videos for our YouTube channel, which are still yet to come. We also had some amazing opportunities to travel; we got to see my favorite artist and our favorite band in concert, and we ate some amazing food along the way! 2023 in review also includes our favorite new restaurants that we tried… but also a few wishes for 2024.

The beginning of the year and the beginning of BitesOfAwe
It was a slow start for 2023, both me and my husband were stuck in jobs that meant long hours and almost no free time. Although we were saving a bit more money, we were exhausted. Not only were we exhausted, but we were also ordering in much more than we were making our own food. And, of course, we both gained some weight. At some point, we were just operating in auto-mode. Wake up, work, eat or order in, and sleep; repeat. We wanted to break the circle, so instead of ordering in, we started to test making our families’ recipes or new ones.
We discovered Mexican and Indian food, which quickly became my husband’s favorites, and Asian cuisine, which became number one for me. If at the beginning of the year we had one small cupboard of spices (that we barely used here and there), we now have four cupboards filled with spices, pastes, condiments, and aromas that we love testing out in different combos!
We fell in love with cooking. So in our spare time, which was so close to none, we started this blog. We thought that people would enjoy trying Romanian dishes or various concoctions that we create. So somewhere in May, bitesofawe.com came to life! And our first ever blog post and my favorite dish, Baked potato and egg salad, was published!
Vacations of 2023 in review
In June, we went to Berlin for a short trip together with my brother to see my favorite artist. We had an amazing couple of days, and we discovered one of our favorite soups: wonton soup. You can read all about it in our blog about our short trip.
We also had the opportunity in July to go to Hungary to see our favorite band! But this time, we wanted to make it a bigger vacation, not a city break trip. So we stayed in Budapest for four nights. We had an absolutely amazing hotel and we basically only ate Asian food (except for the breakfasts). In our Culture tales from Budapest blog article, we explained the awesome experience we had. And we fondly await the next time we go there!

The last trip of the year was to Malta, in October. We had a blast and visited so many places. And also, we ate a lot of seafood—fresh and hearty! The Culture tales from Malta blog was the last one for this year, as we had no more vacation days :).
What’s to come?
We are excited to start posting on YouTube and other social media! In 2023, we tried to learn as much as we could, but we think it’s just better if we start posting already!

We could be watching tutorials, instructional videos, how-to’s, and everything else as much as we want. We will never know what is waiting for us if we don’t start as soon as possible and just go with the flow, wherever it might take us!
