Scrambled eggs with veggies, outdoor cooking

There’s something magical about cooking outdoors, isn’t there? The sizzle of the grill, the smell of charcoal in the air, and the promise of delicious food waiting to be savored. As an amateur cook, I’ve discovered that one of the simplest yet most satisfying dishes to prepare outdoors is scrambled eggs with veggies. Join me as we explore not only the joy of making this delectable dish on the grill but also how easy it is to make it. And how tasty!

The appeal of outdoor cooking

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of outdoor cooking. There’s a sense of freedom and adventure that comes with cooking in the great outdoors. Whether you’re in your backyard, at a campsite, or on a picnic, cooking outdoors allows you to connect with nature and embrace a simpler way of life. Plus, everything just tastes better when it’s cooked over an open flame, don’t you think? Also, you hear the birds, maybe a river, and some rooster randomly cock-a-doodle-doo-ing here and there.

Diversity in your scrambled eggs with veggies

To begin our outdoor cooking adventure, we’ll need a few basic ingredients for our scrambled eggs with veggies. Gather your favorites – think bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, or whatever else you have on hand. My favorite recipe at the moment has red bell peppers, yellow onions and green onions. But don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with different flavor combinations. Next, we’ll need some eggs, cheese, and a bit of fat for cooking. But we got the fat covered with the pork belly. And of course, don’t forget your trusty grill!

Different textures in your dish

Although I am a beginner home cook, I learned about the importance of texture in cooking from various authors. And this dish really encompasses a variety of textures. And if you change the veggies, you may add even more! We got chewy pork belly, slightly softened veggies, and a creamy texture from the eggs. But you also have a different type of chewiness from the cheese, and you can even get a nice cheese pull if the cheese is good for it. I intentionally add the cheese to the pan just a bit before the beaten eggs, as it melts a bit and starts sticking to everything.

Grilling tips and tricks for scrambled eggs with veggies

When you cook your delicious dish on the grill, it’s essential to keep a few things in mind to ensure perfect results.

  1. Keep an eye on the heat. If you see your veggies are frying too fast or the eggs are sticking and cooking too fast, remove the pan slightly from the grill. This will cool it a bit rapidly, slowing the cooking process.
  2. Move things around. I know some stuck veggies and maybe some crispier egg parts taste amazing. But not if it all tastes like charcoal! So keep moving the elements here and there to ensure even cooking. You can use a spatula to stir, or just lift and replace the bits at the bottom.

The finishing touches, sides and spices

You made the perfect scrambled eggs with veggies – golden and slightly crispy. Now, what are your options for spices? I normally choose to add either just salt and pepper, or I use my spice blend for eggs. As for sides, I go for a simple tomato-cucumber-red onion salad. But you can, of course, serve it with a side of toast, salsa, or your favorite hot sauce. You can also garnish your scrambled eggs with fresh herbs if desired; just don’t overdo it. Too many flavors don’t help either.

In conclusion, making scrambled eggs with veggies outdoors on the grill is a delightful culinary adventure that’s accessible to cooks of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned grill master or a novice cook, there’s something undeniably satisfying about preparing a delicious meal al fresco.

So grab your ingredients, fire up the grill, and let’s make ourselves some delicious scrambled eggs with veggies!

Scrambled eggs are a beloved breakfast staple enjoyed by people all over the world. They are versatile, quick to prepare, and endlessly customizable, making them a favorite dish for home cooks and professional chefs alike.

Ingredients

  • 5 whole eggs

  • 1 medium onion

  • 2 scallions

  • 1 red bell pepper

  • 80 grams slightly smoked pork belly

  • 100 grams cheese of your choice

  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  • Start by cleaning and washing your veggies. Cut them as you like; I usually go for cubes. Set aside and cut the smoked pork belly and the cheese.
  • In a bowl, whisk in the eggs and set aside. Place a pan over medium heat and add the smoked pork belly. Cook it until it turns golden brown and most of the fat is released in the pan.
  • Add in the veggies and fry them until they soften. Add in the cheese cubes and cook until they are half-melted, then add in the whisked eggs. Cook the eggs to your liking. When you get the pan off the heat, add salt and pepper. Serve warm with a summer side salad.

Notes

  • If you want, you can replace the pork belly with oil, butter, a few bacon strips, or other fatty meat.
