A dish served as a comforting and nourishing dessert or breakfast option, enjoyed by people of all ages.

Ingredients

  • 500 milliliters milk

  • 80 grams semolina flour

  • 20 grams sugar

  • 4 grams vanilla sugar

  • Optional toppings: cocoa powder, sugar, lemon zest, cinnamon powder, etc.

Directions

  • In a pot over medium heat, add the milk and bring to a simmer. Turn the heat to low and add in the sugar and the vanilla sugar. Stir continuously until dissolved. Start adding in the semolina flour while continuing to stir to avoid the formation of clumps. Cook until the mixture turns into a paste of porridge consistency.
  • Place on a plate and sprinkle with sugar, cocoa, or any of the optional toppings. Leave to cool down and serve warm or cold.

Notes

  • This was one of the best, cheap, go-to deserts of my childhood. The toppings can also be changed based on your liking. You can also use sour jam, maple syrup, ice cream toppings, or a homemade caramel sauce (recipe here).
